Some of the Best Stargazing in Southern California
With virtually zero light pollution, Stagecoach Trails Campground offers pristine night skies that attract stargazers, astrophotographers, and nature lovers year-round. Whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or just love to lie back and watch the Milky Way roll by, our remote desert location is one of the best places in California to enjoy the stars.
Stagecoach Trails Campground & RV Park is located in the Julian backcountry near the edge of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park — far from city lights, highways, or air pollution. Our high elevation, low humidity, and dark sky conditions create ideal stargazing opportunities throughout the year.
- The Milky Way (often visible without a telescope!)
- Planetary alignments and meteor showers
- Constellations like Orion, Scorpius, and Cassiopeia
- Moon phases, satellites, and sometimes the ISS
With wide-open desert landscapes and zero interference from artificial lights, our campground is a dream for astrophotographers. Tripods, long exposures, and even time-lapse shots of the stars are easy to capture right outside your tent or cabin.
- Bring a blanket or reclining chair for comfort
- Use a red flashlight to preserve night vision
- Download a stargazing app to identify constellations
- Join us during peak celestial events like meteor showers!
