Anza-Borrego Desert State Park welcomes street-legal vehicles only on its dirt and paved roads. That means:

  • Allowed: 2WD/4WD passenger vehicles, SUVs, trucks, and overland rigs with license plates
  • 🚫 Not Allowed: ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, or any off-highway vehicles (OHVs)
  • 🚫 No off-trail driving: You must remain on designated roads at all times

No. Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) such as ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, and dirt bikes are not allowed anywhere in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, and there is no OHV riding directly from Stagecoach Trails. Only street-legal vehicles may drive the park’s roads.

A high-clearance 4×4 is recommended for most dirt roads near Stagecoach Trails and within Anza-Borrego. Some easy routes can be accessed with AWD or even 2WD under good conditions, but many areas require 4WD and off-road experience.

No. Only street-legal, plated vehicles may drive on surrounding roads. For dirt bike or OHV riding, we recommend Ocotillo Wells SVRA, about 45 minutes away.
